New President!

What a weekend! Not quite the peace and quiet I was expecting. We had a military coup - but it wasn't a military coup at all! Confusing stuff! The President Mel Zelaya was arrested by the Military in the early hours of Sunday morning and exiled to Costa Rica as he had been breaking the law and constitution. We were at our early morning Prayer Meeting on Sunday morning when we heard that it had happened. Everyone was told to stay at home and church was cancelled. There were trucks of soldiers driving around our town- apparently - I didn't see them! But here in Sigua it was all calm and so football was on as normal and we went off to watch it etc - noone had stayed in their houses!
Tegus was a different matter and I was glad not to be there! During the day they inaugarated a new President! All happened a bit fast, but heh! We had a curfew of 9pm last night. Everyone had to be in their houses by 9pm and the military were on the roads to check. No-one was messing with this and so by 9pm we were at home! CNN and BBC all seemed to have a very one sided few of what had happened - and it didn't seem to be correct. None of my Honduran friends agreed with any of it - making out Mel (Old President) was a good man, feeling sorry for him. Not in any way correct! I guess he got the good publicity he wanted!
All seems calm this morning and fairly normal! What will happen in the next few days I have no idea but the worst seems to be over. My first military coup - that wasn't!

On to new things....

Well, I've officially finished with school and am now working for Providence World Ministries - though I don't start teaching there til Aug 1st and so for now it's holiday time! I've never needed a rest so much in my life!! The house move went well and I'm settled into my new apartment. I really like it and we've had lots of visitors. Enough people came to help move the 'stuff' and so it all went smoothly. I don't have internet at home and so it isn't easy to check my email so often anymore - very frustrating. I have so much to say but right now not enough time to say it! Just to let you all know I'm well and the move went well etc.
(p.s) There are rumours of a military coup (is that how you spell it?) here at the weekend. The President and politics have gone mad! I'll write more on that at a later date. All change!

Moving....

Allow me to warn you that moving house in the tropics is just horrible! It's sooooooo hot these days and packing and moving are just not pleasant things to do! Having said that the end is in sight. Amanda's back is bad at the moment and so I moved everything by myself today. No-one else was free to help. It nearly killed me, but it's done. I even took the fence down - Jorge helped me with that bit - at 7pm. Tomorrow I move the furniture using the big Camion..er..truck that we went to Ceiba in. And that's it. I went and bought a bed base today and so I now have a bed! Yay. We had a list of helpers for tomorrow, most of whom can't come so we shall see what happens?! We definitely have 2 coming to help! I just hope it's not as hot as today...Please pray for internet in my house too....it would make life so much better!!!

Packing!!

Agggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! I hate packing!! Packing in this intense heat is just no fun either! It's really hot these days. So, we are surrounded by boxes and are trying to get everything packed so tomorrow when people come to help us move stuff we have things to actually move. Saturday we have the truck from church moving our big furniture. For the next few days and weeks I don't actually have a bed base or wardrobe or desk or or or...!! I have to go ad buy these things as I had borrowed them from school. We found a nice (cheap) wardrobe in a used store in town, it was unfortunate that when we opened the door Amanda screamed in the store as there were cockroaches running around inside the wardrobe. Really horrible - but I think the only one I can afford right now!! A bit of a clean and it might be different!!

Apparently there is no internet connection in the new apartment, the signal doesn't reach it! Possibly no tv either. Goodness knows what I'm going to do living there by myself with nothing to do - am trying not to think about it. It may also mean that my blogging won't be so regular as I will have to find somewhere else to use the internet!

Please pray as we move and settle into somewhere new! Pray the signal reaches us.

Goodbyes!

It's been over a week since I updated this and so much has happened! This last weekend Amanda went to the beach and I stayed here to clean the apartment ready so we can start moving in this week. Slightly Cinderella-esque, but someone had to clean it and get going on this moving malarky!

Last night I was awoken by another earthquake, this time only a 5.7 I think...but enough to wake me. I am over being woken up now by things shaking - I like my sleep. This one didn't come in waves but was a back and forward shaking. Looks like this is the way things are going now. Please pray for safety.

Other big news is mainly that school has finished! YAY!! I think I mentioned I am leaving my current school to go and work in the village with Providence World Ministries - working and starting a school in a very poor community and working with orphans. So, last week was the exam week in school - final week with the kids, was a week of goodbyes and fairwell class parties/trips. All good fun. We still have to go into school for 2 weeks - not sure why really as there are no kids and I have finished all my reports ect. Actually I worked my butt off last week to get everything finished because we are moving this week and I needed to get work out of the way! So it's the end now!

Today we had a staff despedida - farewell party. We had it at Prof Edith's daughter's house - oh my!! How the other half live!!! They have a swimming pool in the garden?! Then I spent the evening at Peter and Maileen's house. A lovely day!

This is me between Deb and Nicole (with Brian being creepy in the background). All these guys are leaving.
